The must-see of the West End of London

By Curtis Lacombe

Many topics come to mind when referring to London and the West End. Fashionable shops, beautiful palaces, expensive town-houses etc... Also, the world of entertainment is at it's best there. One can't visit the capital without having breathed the unique atmosphere of West End.

This is the West End of London: The historic centre within reach of Westminster City boundaries. While most of West End's entertainment program can be found in the area of Covent Garden and Leicester Square, the more shopping interested visitors will head towards Bond St., Oxford St. and Regent St.

In the West End of London you find The Savoy, The Trafalgar, the Mountbatten Hotel, The Langham or the St Martins Lane Hotel, among others. It is here that one can find London's best hotels.

Another famous aspect of The West End is the capital's theatre world. If you take your visit to the city seriously, the great classics like the plays War Horse, The Mousetrap, The Woman in Black, or musicals like Billy Elliot, Wicked, Les Miserables or the famous Phantom of the Opera are the must-see plays. The commercial theatres of the West End are amongst the best in the world and easily compare to Broadway's theatres. There are about 40 comedy, classic or musical theatres in London's "Theatreworld" to choose from.

Alongside the big-name shopping locations like Ralph Lauren, Topshop, Selfridges or Fenwick and the Apple Store, the West End of London also features lovely less-known shopping opportunities like the ones on St Christopher's Place, Carnaby Street or St Martin's Courtyard. Those looking for the above will however head towards Oxford Street, Bond Street or Regent Street.

Whether you want to make new experiences or enjoy a meal in the evening, the West End of London has something to offer you. The wide choice of excellent bars or places to dine will make the explorer's efforts worthwhile. Why not round up a great day in London with an outstanding taste experience in the West End?

All nationalities' tastes can be satisfied in West End. Japanese at Aqua Kyoto, Italian at Jamie's, tapas at the Opera Tavern, you name it. Hot destinations are found either near Covent Garden and St Martin's or around Carnaby and Regent Street or the Opera Quarter.

The Cafe de Paris or Tiger Tiger are the dancers' places of choice for the night. West End bartenders are waiting for you at trendy bars like the Albannach or the Dirty Martini. The city never sleeps.

Many opportunities await the visitor of West end during the holidays. The New Year's Parade during winter and the West End Live free musical events are not to be missed. Oxford St and Regent St are traffic-free on many of West Ender family-friendly events.
