Sky scrappers change the skyline of any city. This is what Millenium Tower Boston is about to do once completed. It is situated in Downtown Crossing where Filenes Flagship store once stood. The project has faced handles in its process of construction but is on the final leg. The building will stand tall among other buildings in the area.
Upon completion, it is designed to offer residential, commercial and office space. The project is expected to cost about 700 million dollars. It is currently being undertaken by Vornado in partnership with Gale international. They seek to transform the site where Filenes once stood.
There is variety in the nature of tenants who will be occupying different sections. The design has provided for a hotel with a capacity of 280 rooms. Space has also been reserved for a restaurant that can hold 125 seated guests. Office space has an allocation of 44,100 square meters or 475,000 square feet. This dynamism is exciting as a working and living complex.
The space reserved for commercial purposes is 300,000 square feet or 28,000 meters. Residential condos are a combination of 2 and 3 bedroom spaces. There is a park adjacent to the building that will also be used by tenants within the complex.
The initial phase of construction was abandoned after investors ran out of money. Since the project had began, it left massive and gaping holes where the former store stood. Filenes was constructed in the 1950-70s with a different design. The delays caused administrators at Boston to suspend the permit for construction.
The project got a new lease of life with the entry of Millenium partners in 2012. The new design offered 1.2 million square feet as available space. It is a professional combination of office, residential and commercial space. This has introduced a new dimension to the street.
One major tenant to sign up for occupancy is Arnold Worldwide. He penned a signature on the contract on April 13 2013. This was a big boost to the construction and completion of this project. The ground breaking ceremony was held on September 17th 2013. Thomas M Menino, the former mayor of the city was in attendance during the ceremony.
The record for the largest concrete pour within the city was broken on 26th April 2014 when six hundred trucks drained six hundred cubic yards of concrete. This was for the slab on which the tower will stand. Another tenant who has taken space and waiting for completion is Roche Brothers grocery store.
The complex is expected to join two others towers offering residential areas in upper floors. The residential condos are available in units of one, two and three bedrooms. The address for the building is 426 Washington Street even though the lobby is constructed facing Franklin Street.
Completion of this complex is waited because of the breath of new life it will inject in the area. The area is known for its gated lifestyle but is bound to experience something new. The architects behind the design are also credited for their work on Flatiron Building in the heart of Manhattan and Union Station that is in D. C.
