Adirondack Waterfront Property Is Available In Many Price Ranges

By Jennifer Bell

There are many beautiful spots located throughout the United States. Each region of the country is different and filled with areas steeped in history and waiting to be discovered by the next generation. The Adirondacks is one such place. Every season has its own unique beauty and appeals to diverse individuals. Ever since the Victorians discovered it, the rich and famous have come here to enjoy the cool summers and the changing autumn foliage. Adirondack waterfront property is still desired by many for its beauty and history.

Once the rail lines and steamboats made it easy to get to, this area of the country was inundated by the Eastern elite. Hotels, resorts, and spas were constructed, each more elaborate than the other, to lure the most affluent Americans to travel from the heat and discomfort of the cities to the rocking chairs on their cool and peaceful verandas. Many were so impressed they built their own homes on the shores of Lake George. Millionaires' Row became the place to live and be seen.

Unlike their contemporaries who chose to build huge homes on tiny site in the Hamptons and Newport, Lake George residents bought plenty of land surrounding their cottages, as they called them. There are still great opportunities for the wealthy to purchase an estate, a home, or a building site in this exclusive area. When they do so, they will be in the company of a few palatial mansions that still exist.

Wikiosco is one of the luxurious homes built at the end of the nineteenth century, for example, that was recently for sale. It would take about thirteen million dollars to purchase this type of estate, but you would be getting a lot. This is one of the last private homes from the era that still exists intact. Like many of that period, it is a Tudor Revival. The mansion comes complete with a twelve car garage, twelve bathrooms, and a massive wine cellar. The views of Lake George are magnificent.

Homes on Lake Placid are also available. For those who do not mind spending between four and eight million dollars, three story residences with eight bedrooms or so, around four or five thousand square feet of living area, and a private boathouse are being offered. Potential purchasers can expect to find numerous fireplaces installed, as well as private pools and tennis courts.

Some people prefer the additional amenities that come with living in a condominium or town home. It is possible to find these types of properties on the water in the Adirondacks. You should expect to pay in the range of five hundred thousand dollars for a two or three story town home. Many offer chef's kitchens.

Reasonably priced single family homes are available on the water here, but you will not get the square footage or amenities your more affluent neighbors enjoy. If you are happy with two or three bedrooms and a community dock, there is plenty of real estate to choose from.

The Adirondacks is a beautiful region of the country to live in. You can spend millions of dollars on an estate or enjoy the water in a smaller, but equally satisfying, home.
