The word keto is used as a short form of the word ketogenic which is a form of diet that deals with fats and oil intakes instead of carbohydrates and high-calorie foods. In short, it is defined as a low-carb, high fat and protein diet. The main aim of the diet is to enhance the metabolism of these compounds instead of glucose which comes as a result of starch and sugar breakdown. It encourages intakes of these oils as the main food materials. However, there are certain fats to eat on keto as not all of them are ideal for your body.

This method of eating is important and applied in different areas. First, this is a therapy used in weight loss as well as body health maintenance. The body produces insulin hormone that is responsible for converting glucose into oils and related compounds. It also produces glucagon is responsible for adding sugar concentration in the blood. The conversion of sugar to storage materials is what brings weight accumulation and build up. This results in conditions like obesity, bellies, and overweight.

Ketogenic diets are also associated with reducing epilepsy. Normally, this diet requires high intake of oils. This is because oxidation and breakdown of the oils produce less energy compared to glucose conversion. Therefore, to avoid energy deficiency in the body, fat must be taken in larger volumes.

Fats and oils are said to be made of oxygen, carbon and hydrogen molecules. They come from lipid class and may either be in a solid or liquid state in regard to the temperature and amount of hydrogen in them. However, in absence of sugar, the body will use them as the raw materials of energy production. They are found in two main categories. That is saturated or unsaturated forms.

Because of the composition of the fats, they may have hazardous effects that may be life-threatening if not properly taken. Some of the side effects are such as heart disorders and infections and accumulation of cholesterol in the blood vessels. At the same time, they are believed to cause some cancers.

The best compound in the case to take include saturated cooking oils. These compounds are solid in most cases and sometimes cannot be taken in their raw state. They need cooking so that they are able to be broken down by the body cells. They contain stable state, long shelf life among other characteristics. They are got from red meat, butter, cream, coconut and palm oils, eggs and tallow.

Another type is the medium-chain triglycerides also known as MCT which is a type of the saturated oils. These compounds are easily digested and oxidized. This is why many athletes prefer to take such compounds. The reason for this is that when taken, they directly go to the liver where they are broken down. Nevertheless, you can get in smaller quantities in butter, palm oils, and coconut.

The other type is the monounsaturated oil compounds. These are oils rich in omega nine and other minerals. In most cases, they are consumed in their raw state. These oils are ideal in eliminating heart-related disorders as well as serum formation. Mainly, they are obtained from olive, avocado, macadamia among other nut oils. Polyunsaturated, on the other hand, are important in brain development due to the presence of omega three and six found in them. However, taking these compounds require large intakes of water.
