Hostgator Promo Codes - 30% Off

By Dhruv Patel

Hosting and domain companies regularly issue promotions, and savvy buyers are quick to find the details and post them online. Finding a Hostgator promo code therefore usually needs no more than a simple Google search. Once you've picked up a valid code, all you need then do is open your hosting account. However, not all providers are created equal, so it's always worth checking out some essential criteria before going ahead.

Many providers for example advertise 'unlimited bandwidth'. However, bandwidth is always limited, either by hardware limitations or the limitations inherent in the internet itself. Furthermore, for most people 'unlimited bandwidth' is pretty meaningless. Few people realize how little bandwidth they really need.

Providers know this and can thus safely put a shine on their marketing by making this claim. Only if you're planning to host bandwidth-hungry content like streaming audio or video will this feature be an issue. If you are, then should make sure that the plan you're considering will have enough breadth for your needs.

This is where reading the fine print is essential. On close inspection you will find that most providers will in fact state some limits on bandwidth use. You should research how much you will likely need initially, and also how much you may need as your site grows. This is also true when it comes to storage size. Hosting accounts are allocated a certain MB/GB of capacity for storing sites and files.

The small print will reveal that there are in fact limits to the disc space you will be allowed to use. This won't be a problem for a small, simple site, but if you want to store a lot of data (e. G. Video downloads) then you should be clear about how much space you really have. Be aware, too, of how much it will cost to upgrade should the need arise.

One feature worth checking for is the availability of quality website themes/templates. Many hosting providers offer free templates, although as with most things you get what you pay for. Free templates will tend not be the best quality, and providers will often charge extra for access to premium templates. That said, if you need only a basic design, then a free template may well meet your needs adequately.

An important aspect of buying a hosting service is the quality of tech support. Many providers tout 24/7 support but the quality of that service can certainly vary. It's a good idea to Google for recent customer experiences people are having with the providers you're considering. Read some posts on blogs and forums and get an idea of how well the company is performing.

One thing to be absolutely sure of is tech support availability on weekends and public holidays. Things can go wrong at the most inconvenient times so you need to be sure that support is available when you may need it most. If the company offers a trial period, this would be a good opportunity to test them out. Try making a few support requests and gauge their response. Whether it's by live chat or email, they should reply within minutes.
